The Panel

Under the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011, each Police force area has a Police and Crime Panel to maintain a regular check and balance on the performance of the Police and Crime Commissioner on behalf of the residents and Community. The Commissioner is also required to consult with the Panel on their plans and budget for policing, as well as the level of council tax and the appointment of a Chief Constable.

In 2012, the Gwent Police and Crime Panel was created. The Panel is comprised of 12 elected members nominated by each local authority in Gwent and also at least two independent members.

In Wales Police and Crime Panels are free-standing public bodies and are the responsibility of the Home Secretary. Caerphilly County Borough Council provide administration and support to Gwent PCP.

The following document gives a breakdown of the costs incurred during 2018/19 financial year, for the administration of the Gwent Police and Crime Panel.

The current Chair of the Gwent Police and Crime Panel is Mrs Gillian Howells, Co-opted Panel Member and the Vice Chair is Cllr Colin Mann from Caerphilly County Borough Council.
